How to Stop Programs Opening at Start-up
- 1). Click the Windows "Start" button and click in the "Start Search" box if you are using Windows Vista or 7. For Windows XP users, click "Run."
- 2). Type "msconfig" (without quotes) and press "Enter" to launch the Systems Configuration Utility. The Systems Configuration Utility enables you to disable start-up programs. Click the "Startup" tab. You should see a list of the programs that launch automatically when you start your computer.
- 3). Scroll through the list and uncheck the programs that you no longer want to launch when your computer starts ups. Programs such as media players or instant messaging programs do not have to launch at computer start-up, so you can disable them if you want. Do not uncheck security programs such as antivirus or firewall programs, because these are essential for computer security.
- 4). Click "Apply" when you finish and restart your computer to complete the process.
