A well-made dried flower arrangements retains color and visual interest. It may combine textures, mixing flowers with dried grasses, seedheads or cattails. If you choose unwisely, your dried flowers will not retain their color and they may crumble. Luckily, several attractive garden flowers dry well. They grow readily and come in an array of colors so each gardener can choose her favorite. - Statice (Limonium sinuatum) is a classic flower for drying. It comes in an array of colors, such as purple, pink, blue or yellow. Flowers grow 1 to 2 feet tall and appear singly on stems.This flower grows readily in all 48 continental United States, so hardiness zone is not a concern. Plant status from May to October, depending on your hardiness zone, then cut and dry the flowers when they open.
- Larkspur (Consolida ajacis) produces vibrant blue, white, pink and purple blossoms in the spring and summer months. This flower dries readily, according to the University of Missouri. Larkspur blossoms appear in clusters along a stem; the flowers have five petals. Larkspur's feathered foliage adds additional interested for drying. This flower grows in hardness zones 3 to 11.

While the University of Missouri recommends the yellow forms of yarrow (Achillea millefolium) for color, white forms also dry well. Yarrow is a common wildflower, found in prairies, along highways, and in deserts and sub-alpine regions. White, pink or yellow flowers grow in tight clusters from a single stem. Yarrow flowers from spring to summer and ranges from 6 to 24 inches in height. As its name suggests, strawflower (Bracteantha bracteata) makes an ideal dried flower. Capable of growing up to 4 feet tall, with flowers up to 5 inches wide, strawflower appears in a variety of colors. Yellow, pink, white and purple are common. Native to Australia, strawflower grows in hardiness zones 8 to 11, and gardeners in colder zones can grow strawflower during the summer then cut and dry blooms.
