How to Troubleshoot Leaks on a GE Profile Arctica Model PSS26MSTDSS
- 1). Use a wrench to loosen the nut slightly if there is leaking underneath the connection at the rear of the refrigerator. When the GE Profile Arctica refrigerator is installed, ensure that the molded end of the "GE SmartConnect" tubing that comes with the refrigerator is inserted into the tubing at the refrigerator rear and the compression nut is firmly tightened by hand. Then a wrench should be used to complete one additional turn. If the nut is too tight, leaks may result.
- 2). Hold a large container under the water dispenser and run water for three minutes to clear. When the water filter is newly installed or replaced in the refrigerator, the system must be flushed in order to drive any impurities out of the system. Otherwise the water may spurt and leak from the dispenser.
- 3). Use a wooden spoon or other utensil to gently poke ice cubes through the dispenser to remove if there is ice jammed and melting in the dispenser. If ice cubes get stuck in the dispenser chute, they can begin to melt and create a leak. Use the ice dispenser frequently to help keep ice moving through the system and prevent the ice cubes from melting together, which leads to jams in the dispenser.
- 4). Open the refrigerator and locate the drain tube on the rear wall. Check for obstructions and clean as needed. Note that it may be necessary to disconnect the power, open the front access panel and clean the drain tube from the drain pan. During the self-defrost cycle, water drips down into a pan located behind the front access panel. However, if the drain tube is clogged, water can leak inside the refrigerator.
- 5). Move the "Energy Saving Mode" switch to the other side and allow 24 hours to see if the leak resovles. Energy Star qualified refrigerators, such as the GE Profile Arctica, have heaters on the doorframe that evaporate condensation that develops on the frame. However, when the refrigerator runs in energy saving mode, the heaters are not in use and water may drip down from the door.
