Hozelock Pressure Washer Range Review

38
Anybody who has used a pressure washer knows how useful they can be around the house and garden. Cleaning tools, bikes and barbecues is easy. So is removing the winter build-up of mould and algae on hard landscaping and decks to make them smart and safe in the Spring. Hozelock have produced a range of pressure washers that seem to very popular with gardeners at the moment. What do the various models in the range have to offer?

There are three models in the range, with operating pressures of 100, 130 and 150 bar. They have correspondingly increasing rates of water delivery and are suitable for increasingly tough jobs.

There are some design features that are carried throughout the range:-
  •     The tools and lances are stowed on the washer for neatness
  •     All have wheels to make moving around easy. There's no need for lifting and carrying
  •     Detergent dispenser(s)
  •     Hozelock's Total Stop System means that the motor disengages when the trigger is released, thus saving water and energy
  •     Transparent inlet filter so you can see if there is any build-up of scale or other blockage

Hozelock Pressure Washer 100 bar

For small cleaning jobs such as barbeques, garden tools and furniture, this is probably the model to choose. While it would struggle with large areas, it's perfectly OK for cleaning small patios, steps and paths.

The design is very compact, but still incorporates storage for all the attachments on tha back of the unit. Having to put a washer plus tools and hoses back into a box after use is a real drag - this feature goes a long way to overcome the problem.

The lance clips into place and doubles as a towing handle, so you can just wheel the washer back to the garage.

The pressure of 100 bar is still impressive for such a compact and portable washer. For the small to average garden this model would be ideal.
  •     100 bar max
  •     1200W induction motor
  •     3m high pressure hose
  •     Turbo and rotary lances included
  •     6 litre/min water delivery
  •     5m cable with fitted plug
  •     Weight 7kg

Hozelock Pressure Washer 130 bar

If you have larger areas to deal with - larger patios or decking - the more powerful 130 would be preferable. It would probably be better for car cleaning as well .

It shares the same convenience features as the 100, but has a fixed handle so it can be more easily moved around while in use – you can see the advantage when cleaning a larger area. The tools can still be stored on the unit after use.

The more powerful 1700 watt motor delivers more water at a higher pressure. The pressure hose is 2 metres longer.

This is a mid-sized washer that should handle most of the jobs you can give it.
  •     130 bar max
  •     1700W induction motor
  •     5m high pressure hose
  •     Turbo and rotary lances included
  •     6.2 litre/min water delivery
  •     5m cable with fitted plug
  •     Weight 9 kg

Hozelock Pressure Washer 150 bar

The heavy-duty 150 bar washer is the top of the range. It's designed for large jobs such as sizeable patios and terraces, also cars and caravans. Naturally it will still handle the smaller jobs as it is just as portable as its smaller cousins.

It's noticeably heavier at 19 kg, which is to be expected really. But as it has large wheels, together with a fixed towing handle this shoudn't prove too much of a problem.

The pressure hose is a very useful 8m long and is kept on an integral reel, so you just pull out the length you need, so avoiding having loose lengths of hose lying around.

There are two separate detergent tanks, so you can use different detergents, switch between the tanks and even control the rate of flow of the solution to suit the job in hand.

The 150 bar pressure is powerful enough to move almost any stubborn grime - in fact it should be able to handle any job around the house and garden.
  •     150 bar max
  •     2100W induction motor
  •     8m through-flow, armoured high pressure hose on integral reel
  •     Turbo and rotary lances included
  •     7 litre/min water delivery
  •     5m cable with fitted plug
  •     Weight 19 kg

So it seems to me that there should be a model within the range to handle the scale of task that most people will face. Of course it's always better to have a machine rather over-capable for the job in hand, rather than having to make a lighter-duty machine work at its limits, so it's as well to buy the best you can afford.

Additionally, don't forget that these are all powerful machines that can hurt you if not treated with respect - always take care to follow the safety instructions and wear the protective equipment recommended - particularly for your eyes!
