How to Replace Drum Seal in Clothes Dryer

6
    • 1). Disconnect power from the dryer. If the dryer was recently used, allow it to cool for about 10 minutes.

    • 2). Open the dryer cabinet to remove the drum. Locate the screws that secure the drum to the inside of the dryer. Remove the screws and your drum will slide out. Some dryer drums require you to remove the belt before the drum will slide out. Refer to your owner's manual, as each dryer features different procedures.

    • 3). Strip away the old dryer seal. Using a plastic spatula, scrape away as much of the adhesive as you can. Be sure your spatula is plastic so it won't scrape the dryer itself.

    • 4). Apply sealant to the new seal on the stitch side. Place the seal stitch-side down onto the drum where the old seal was located. Most seals will come with a tube of sealant; if yours did not, purchase it separately at the same place you purchased the drum seal.

    • 5). Wipe away any excess sealant using an old rag. Allow the sealant and seal to dry for four to six hours. Once the seal is dried completely, reinstall the drum.
