How to Troubleshoot a Sears Kenmore 22 Drain
- 1). Unplug the refrigerator or disconnect power completely at the fuse box. Mix four parts water to one part bleach in a basting syringe. Turn the refrigerator around so that you are facing the back side. Locate the drain tube leading into the refrigerator. Insert the syringe into drain tube to flush. Insert the flexible tubing into the drain if the mixture does not move through the drain tube. Work the tubing into the drain to clear any clogs.
- 2). Inspect the area beneath crisper drawers for water. This indicates that drain is clogged with ice. Cut a piece of copper wire about 6 inches long. Bend the top of the wire over a 1/4-inch rod, such as a screwdriver shaft, to form a hook. Locate the trough under the evaporator and remove the ice to open the drain, applying hot water with a basting syringe. Loosely hang the copper piece so that it extends down the drain. The wire acts as a heat conductor to keep the drain open.
- 3). Check water pressure because low pressure can result in leaky valves. Inspect the water valve shut off to verify it is turned to "On" and is reaching the water valve.
- 4). Inspect the copper or plastic tubing that leads to drain. Remove any kinks. Replace any damaged tubing.
