How to Get Rid of Butterflies in Peach Trees
- 1). Ensure that the peach orchard's soil is mixed with good compost. Trees and plants that grow in soil rich with recycled organic matter are better able to resist an infestation of butterflies and their larvae.
- 2). Dilute small amounts of various herbs in a spray bottle with water. Suggested herbs which have anti-insect properties are rosemary, mint, cloves, thyme and ginkgo biloba.
- 3). Spray the leaves of the peach tree regularly whenever it is suspected that butterfly larvae are in the tree or wherever caterpillars have been spotted.
These herbs do not have the same strength as chemical pesticides, so continuous spraying every few hours during peak times (larvae hatching season) is required. - 4). Spray dish soap on tree leaves in the same manner as the diluted herb solution was sprayed. Insects try to avoid dish soap.
- 5). Spray Tanglewood Pest Barrier on the tree. It is a natural, sticky solution which will prevent the caterpillars from crawling around on the tree and eating the fruit.
