In most cases, people who fall under a certain age group may be required to wear helmets. They may face punishment if they do not follow the law. The age till which a person has to wear a helmet may vary from state to state in the US. Hence, it is important for people to be aware of the rules and regulations that govern the use of helmets in their respective states. Given below are some of the important questions regarding helmet laws that have been answered:

Should a person wear a helmet when operating an all-terrain vehicle?
A person may be expected to wear a helmet while operating an all-terrain vehicle if he/she is below 18 years of age. He/she may not wear a helmet if he/she is over 18 years.

Should people wear DOT helmets when riding mopeds in the state of Massachusetts?
It may be compulsory for both the person riding the moped and the passenger if any to wear helmets of the DOT standard in the state of Massachusetts.

Is there a National law that makes it compulsory for people to wear helmets while riding a bicycle?
There is no National law that makes it compulsory for a person to wear a helmet while riding a bicycle. However, different states of the US may have different rules and regulations regarding the use of helmets. In some states it may be compulsory for anybody who rides a bicycle to wear a helmet. Only people who are less than 16 years of age may be expected to wear helmets in some other states.

Are there any helmet laws in the state of New Mexico?
A helmet law was passed in New Mexico on July 1, 2007. According to this law, any person under the age of 18 who rides a bike or a skateboard should wear a helmet. The parents would have to pay a civil fine of $10 if the child is caught without a helmet. The parents may waive the fine by buying the child a helmet.

Should a person in North Carolina wear a helmet to ride a moped?
The laws of the state of North Carolina require anyone who rides a moped on the highway to wear a motorcycle safety helmet.

What are the helmet laws in the state of Florida with regards to riding a motorcycle or moped?
People who are 21 years or older may not have to wear a helmet while riding a moped or a motorcycle in the state of Florida. However, they should carry proof of personal injury protection or health insurance with a minimum coverage of $10,000. People who are younger than 21 years of age are required to wear a department approved helmet. If a person's moped is 50cc or less and does not go beyond 30 miles per hour, he/she may not be required to wear a helmet. However, if he/she or the passenger on the vehicle is less than 16 years of age, then a helmet would be required.

Are moped riders expected to wear a helmet in Minnesota?
Anyone under the age of 18 who rides a moped in Minnesota may be required to wear a helmet. The helmet should be a certified motorcycle or bicycle helmet.
