    Make the Fillings

    • Combine a 6 oz. package of softened cream cheese with 1 tbsp. of sugar and ½ tsp. of vanilla extract. Beat the ingredients with a handheld mixer until smooth and incorporated. In a small bowl, lightly beat 1 egg. Add the beaten egg to the cream cheese mixture and beat until the egg is thoroughly combined with the cream cheese filling.

      In a mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of guava preserves or paste with 1 tbsp. of fresh lemon juice. With a handheld mixer or in a food processor, beat the mixture until it is thick and smooth.

    Make the Pastries

    • Preheat the oven to 350 F. Place the baking sheet in the oven to heat up while you construct the pastries. On a floured surface, smooth out 2 sheets of thawed puff pastry. Cut the sheets into 9 equal-sized squares with a sharp knife. Place 1 tbsp. of guava puree and 1 tbsp. of the cream cheese mixture side-by-side in the middle of each of the squares. Fold the top corner of each square down to the lower corner to form a triangle. Press the edges together with a fork to seal them. Make an egg wash by beating 1 egg white with 1 tbsp. of milk. Brush the egg wash over the triangle pastries with a pastry brush. This will help the dough turn golden. Carefully remove the hot baking sheet from the oven and gently transfer the pastries onto the baking sheet. Bake the pastries for 20 to 30 minutes until the pastry has puffed up and turned golden brown.
