Adopting Kittens: Singapura Appearance and Personality
The Singapura is a cat breed reportedly established from three "drain cats" imported from Singapore in the 1970s. It was later revealed the cats were originally sent to Singapore from the United States before they were exported back to the US.
The Cat Fanciers' Association investigated the circumstances and found there was no wrongdoing. The Singapura kept its status as a natural breed.
The cat is one of the smallest breeds and is noted for its large eyes and ears, brown ticked coat and shortened tail.
Breeders may be concerned about the genetic condition of uterine inertia, which is the inability to expel the fetus due to weak muscles. The condition was present in one of the foundation cats and appears in some Singapura females today. Individual cats with uterine inertia will require caesarean section delivery. There are no other known health problems in the breed.
