How to Change a Fuel Filter on a Camaro

13
    • 1). Unscrew the gas cap from the gas tank to relieve the pressure off of the fuel filter.

    • 2). Jack the rear of the car up and put jack stands under the rear axle. Release the jack so that the rear axle is sitting securely and evenly on the jack stands.

    • 3). Locate the fuel filter directly in front of the rear axle on the driver's side.

    • 4). Place a catch pan under the fuel filter to collect the excess fuel from the fuel lines. Remove the dust covers from each fuel line connection by sliding them backwards onto the fuel line itself. The dust covers cover the fuel line connectors, preventing any dirt from building up inside of the connectors.

    • 5). Remove the inlet side of the fuel filter by pushing the quick-disconnect fuel line tool into the female end of the fuel line. Push the tool all the way in until you feel the fuel line unlock from the fuel filter. Then pull the fuel line straight off of the fuel filter. This is the inlet side of the fuel filter. You can buy a quick-disconnect fuel line tool at most hardware stores.

    • 6). Remove the outlet side of the fuel filter by turning the threaded head of the fuel line with a 9/16-inch wrench counterclockwise to loosen and remove the fuel line. Let the fuel line hang down into the catch pan.

    • 7). Slide the old filter straight out of the mounting bracket then slide the new filter into the mounted bracket. Make sure that the flow arrow on the fuel filter is facing the engine and away from the fuel tank.

    • 8). Slide the inlet fuel line onto the inlet port of the fuel filter by pushing the fuel line straight onto the fuel filter until you feel it lock. Then gently pull back on the fuel line to make sure that it is locked in place.

    • 9). Screw the outlet fuel line onto the outlet port of the fuel filter with the 9/16-inch wrench. Make sure that the line is snug.

    • 10

Screw the gas cap back onto the gas tank. Turn the ignition key on and off three times to prime the fuel filter with fuel, then crank the engine.

    • 11

Inspect the fuel filter and fuel lines for leaks while the engine is running. If there are no leaks, turn the engine off.

    • 12

Jack the car back up and remove the jack stands. Then remove the jack.
