How to Avoid Wearing Down a Skateboard's Nose & Tail
- 1). Put new grip tape on your skateboard whenever the tape begins to wear. Once your grip tape is worn down to the wood, take the old tape off, rub glue on the deck, then put on a new piece of grip tape.
- 2). Clean your board regularly. Rub the bottom of your deck with a slightly wet rag. Rub grip gum over the top of your deck to clean out old pieces of rock that can eat away at your grip tape.
- 3). Step on the ground with your foot to stop the skateboard. Do not use the tail to stop the skate, because this will wear down the tail.
- 4). Apply grease to any surface you are about to grind. Even if you grind the surface with your trucks, there is a chance you will accidentally hit the surface with your nose or tail. To prevent this from happening, make sure there is grease along the entire length of the surface.
- 5). Avoid nose grinding and tail grinding. If you want to attempt these tricks, have a cheaper backup skate that you use just for these tricks; they do far too much damage to a deck for you to do them regularly.
