How to Maintain Titanal Trekking Poles
- 1). Unscrew the adjustment barrels gently. Do not tug or force them to the full open or closed position. Over-tightening the Titanal poles may cause cracking in the plastic barrel adjusters.
- 2). Pull the trekking poles' telescoping sections up, pulling on the top of the pole with a hand firmly around the bottom. Screw down each section at the barrel adjuster as they are extended.
- 3). Wipe the pole sections at the barrel adjusters down, once a year, with a dry graphite lubricant. Do not use a liquid lubricant on the poles. Add some of the dry lubricant to a chamois cloth and wipe 2 inches above the barrel and 2 inches below. Wipe away any excess lubricant.
- 4). Wash the rubber hand grips after treks where your hand may have sweat large amounts onto the grip. The salt from the sweat may erode the plastic over time. Wipe it down with warm water after each hard use.
- 5). Store the trekking poles in a cool, dark area. Direct sun will decay the rubber and plastic pieces on the poles.
