• The historic Alex Theatre was built in 1925 as a vaudeville house. It hosted Hollywood premieres and other large-scale events until its closing in 1982. During an extensive renovation, it was restored to its original condition and reopened in 1983. The historic landmark now functions as multi-purpose art space. Live music, plays, stand-up comedy, and other performances are booked at the venue. Occasionally, films are shown on the big screen. It makes for a great date night, as you aren't forced to talk the entire evening, yet the performance will likely spark conversation afterward.

• You don't have to be a bowling pro to have fun at Jewel City Bowl. Impress your date by reserving a lane in advance (for a deposit); this comes in handy on weekend nights, when the alley gets crowded. Get Outdoors

• For a fun daytime date, consider a visit to Brand Park. This 31-acre park is situated at the base of the Verdugo Mountains. On its property lies Doctors House Museum and Gazebo, Brand Studios, Whispering Pines Teahouse and Friendship Garden, and Brand Public Library. Hiking and biking trails twist through the park, so you can wander the lush grounds and get to know your date. If you have children, there is a playground and a seasonal wading pool to keep kids entertained. Pack a picnic and finish your date with lunch in the park.
