Trouble With GE Refrigerators
- Your GE refrigerator motor normally runs longer than older models, especially after you open the door. Keep the doors closed. If the doors aren't closing properly, clean the door gaskets if dirty, and push in any food or bins sticking out too far. If the door gaskets are falling off, replace them. If the refrigerator won't turn on at all, turn the refrigerator controls to the "On" position, and plug the power cord into the outlet if disconnected. See if the refrigerator is in the showroom mode. Disconnect the power cord from the power supply, and plug it in after a few seconds. If the refrigerator is in the defrost cycle, allow it 30 minutes to complete the cycle. Check your household circuit breaker or fuses. Reset the circuit breaker if tripped, and install new fuses if blown.
- Turn on the ice maker if it won't dispense ice, and verify that the water supply is connected and turned on. Remove any kinks from the inlet line, and clean the ice dispenser chute if clogged with ice. You must completely close the freezer door to dispense ice and water. If the cubes are small, completely open up the water supply and clean the water inlet line. If your cubes have an odor or bad taste, install a water filter if your water has a lot of minerals in it. Clean the ice bin and freezer, and don't store food in the bin. Your water is warm when you first install the refrigerator or if you use up all of the cold water. If the water is not dispensing at all, turn on the water supply, and clean the filter. If water is trapped in the line, hold the lever down for about 2 minutes. Air in the line may also cause the dispenser to leak.
- If your GE refrigerator is too warm, lower the temperature setting. Verify that the doors are closed. Clean the condenser and condenser coils if dirty or if they have frost on them. Pull your refrigerator out, and check the condenser on the back of the unit. If it's not running or if it's making a lot of noise, contact a service technician and have it replaced. Let your refrigerator cool down for 24 hours after you first install it or if you have just added a lot of food to it. Increase the temperature setting if the refrigerator is too cold. If the refrigerator doesn't shut off, you may have a thermostat issue. Contact a service technician.
- A beeping sound indicates that the refrigerator door is open. Close it. If your GE refrigerator vibrates, level it by fixing the floor beneath it or by placing wood shims under the feet. If your refrigerator has an odor, clean the interior and the defrost water pan, and properly wrap foods. Moisture normally forms on the outside of your refrigerator on warm and humid days. Keep the doors closed to avoid moisture building up on the inside of the refrigerator.
