How to Install Headlights
- 1). Buy a replacement headlight from an auto parts store. The vehicle owners manual will show specifications for suitable replacement lamps. If the owner's manual is not available, be prepared to tell the parts clerk the year, make and model of the vehicle. Replacement parts will be listed in the store's database or auto accessories manual.
- 2). Expose the screws that hold the retaining border on the headlight. Some vehicles have plastic grills blocking the retaining screws. If that is the case, unscrew the screws and unlatch the clips holding the grill and remove it.
- 3). Remove the nonfunctioning headlight from the vehicle. Be sure the key is in the "off" position. Unscrew all screws holding the retaining border. Unplug the lamp from the rear. A boot socket at the end of the wires will pull away from the prongs in the back of the headlight.
- 4). Plug the new headlight into the socket boot and test it before completing installation. Turn the ignition key far enough to activate the electrical systems. Turn the headlights on and make sure the new lamp works on both low and high beam settings.
- 5). Seat the lamp in the headlight cup. Push the wires through the hole in the cup and hold the lamp in place. Replace the retaining border and tighten the screws. Replace the grill by clipping on the clips and tightening the holding screws, if it was removed.
