How to Fix the No Paging File on an XP
- 1). Open the "Start" menu and click "Run." Type "sysdm.cpl" and press "Enter" to load the System Properties control panel. You can also access this window by opening "System" in the Control Panel directly.
- 2). Click the "Advanced" tab and press the "Settings" button in the "Performance" section.
- 3). Go to the "Advanced" tab in the new window and press "Change" under the "Virtual Memory" heading.
- 4). Click on your hard drive on the list. If you have more than one drive or partition, pick the one you want your paging file on. This will normally be "C:."
- 5). Press "System Managed Size" to automate the paging file or press "Custom Size" and fill in the initial and maximum size boxes.
- 6). Push "Set" then "OK." Your computer may prompt you to reboot. Choose to do so if asked. Otherwise, close the remaining control panel windows. Your computer now has a paging file.
