How to Prepare Your Garden With Compost
- 1). Till the soil using your tiller until it is loose and easily workable with your hands. Be sure to wear gardening gloves when handling your soil to protect your hands from hidden sharp objects in the soil, bugs and other pests. Bug bites can be painful and sometimes dangerous, while cuts pose a risk for tetanus and other infections.
- 2). Incorporate compost into your soil by pouring over the tilled area and working it in with your tiller. Continue incorporating compost until your soil contains up to 50 percent compost.
- 3). Water the soil well and then till once more to fully and evenly incorporate the moisture.
- 4). Plant your seeds or seedlings as you normally would, pushing the soil and compost around the seeds or roots and then watering well.
