My Electric Dryer Does Not Heat

    • 1). Ensure that the electric dryer is receiving power from the electrical outlet. Reset the household circuit breaker or fuse if necessary, noting that many dryers use two fuses. Plug the dryer directly into an electrical outlet as opposed to an extension cord, as extension cords are not powerful enough for the large appliance.

    • 2). Ensure the power cord is completely plugged into the dryer as well as the outlet, as an improper connection can prevent correct heat transfer.

    • 3). Avoid selecting an "Air Only" dry or temperature cycle, as these choices do not supply heat to the dryer.

    • 4). Open and close the dryer door firmly, as the dryer will not operate correctly if the door is ajar. Ensure the lint screen inside the dryer door is clear of lint, as a full lint screen may result in a cold dryer. Check the exhaust vent and clean it as necessary, ensuring that it is not crushed or damaged. If it is damaged, contact an authorized service professional for assistance.

    • 5). Contact an authorized technician for assistance if the above methods do not resolve the issue, as other potential problems include a broken heating element, thermal fuse or wire connection. These issues may require professional repair.
