29
To get a good nights sleep people will try any thing but in the end they find that taking medication or alcohol does not solve their problem.
Some times it can make matters worse, they can become addicted to what ever they are using.
So what are some other methods that can be considered to help get a good night sleep? Many people overlook this area, but sleep hygiene has a lot to do with getting plenty of sleep, so that the body can rest.
The sad thing is that the routines that fall under sleep hygiene are things that are easy to do, but many people don't realize that they are part of sleep hygiene, or they overlook these simple steps.
Sleep hygiene is simply the rituals and steps that are taken hopefully each night, to ensure that a good night sleep takes place.
What we need to do is look at the simple things that can be done to alleviate insomnia.
1.
Stop eating at a certain hour: Some people get sleepy after they eat, especially after lunch.
This is because of spikes and drops in blood sugar.
This is fine for the day, but during the evening, it's time to shut down the daily bodily processes.
If a person eats too late, they will keep their metabolism going.
Not only that but they will not be able to sleep because they will feel too uncomfortable because they will have full tummies.
This causes constipation, discomfort, and heart-burn.
The best thing is to either eat the last meal of the day a few hours before bed, or to eat very light.
A bowl of soup or a yogurt is ideal for late night eating.
2.
Take a nice bath or shower: In the same way that bathing can wake a person up during the morning hours, it can soothe them in the evening.
There is nothing like the relaxing feel of warm water soaking or cascading the body.
By using body washes and scented oils we can make a daily ritual from it.
Many oils such as lavender are said to have properties that help people go to sleep.
It is also good to be clean before we get into bed it is all part of sleep hygiene.
3.
Turn down the lights a few hours before bed: Our bodies produces a chemical that only flows in our blood when it's dark.
This how our bodies get their signal so that we can rest.
Just as daylight perks us up, turning down the lights a few hours before bed will make us sleepy, or at least mellow.
It's import for sleep hygiene to create a mellow and peaceful feeling inside of us.
4.
Don't drink caffeine a few hours before bed: This should be obvious, but many people fail at this needed sleep hygiene step.
Caffeine is associated as a pick-me-up.
Some people like to have a snack or a cup of tea before going to bed, they wrongly think that this helps them sleep.
Because its dark outside, the body will get sluggish.
A person will not be able to fall into a deep sleep if caffeine has been drunk.
If you are a person who struggles with sleep, then your sleep hygiene habits need to either be implemented or revamped immediately.
A good night sleep is too important, and it needs to be protected at all cost.
If you carry out these simple steps it will go along way to helping you get a good nights sleep.
