For a romantic afternoon, pack a picnic lunch before you go to the park. Cherry Hill (which is near Bethesda Fountain) is a popular and comfortable place to picnic. Walk Across the Brooklyn Bridge

• For excellent views of both the Brooklyn and Manhattan skylines, take a walk across the Brooklyn Bridge. At just over a mile, a leisurely stroll takes about 30 minutes. Start on the Manhattan side of the bridge, and notice the old ships and piers below you at the South Street Seaport. As you approach Brooklyn, you'll see the Statue of Liberty on your right-hand side. When you get to the end of the bridge, follow the signs for DUMBO. Here, you can enjoy a slice of pizza at Grimaldi's famous pizzeria, followed by dessert at the Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory.

The Empire State Building

• The Empire State Building is emblematic of New York City, and it's a great place for a date. A $20 ticket will get you to the observatory on the 86th floor. Transported 1,050 feet by a high-speed elevator, you'll end up on the promenade that surrounds the building. Here you'll enjoy spectacular views of the city in all directions. Many couples become engaged on top of the Empire State Building, and every year on Valentine's Day, 14 couples are selected to have their nuptials performed on the promenade.
