Does Espresso Have Health Benefits?

6
With so many people drinking coffee on a regular basis there is some concern
as to the impact it has on the health of individuals. Fortunately, research
has shown that moderate consumption of espresso can have some healthy benefits.

Diabetes
With the rise of diabetes in our country many people are looking at any advantage
they can find in order to avoid or reverse their Type 2 diabetes. Drinking espresso
gets more antioxidants into the body. The antioxidants help the body process
glucose and can lower the levels of blood sugar. Both of these improved efficiencies
will help in the fight against diabetes.

Cancer
Moderate espresso consumption has been tested to have as much as a 25% reduction
in the risk for colon cancer. But that is not all. Most coffee drinkers seem
to have a lower risk for other types of cancer such as liver, breast and rectal.
The antioxidants in coffee increase blood enzymes that can protect the body
against colon cancer and other forms of cancer as well.

Dementia
New evidence has shown that middle aged espresso drinkers have a lower incidence
of dementia and Alzheimer's disease. The coffee acts as a block for the
type of cholesterol that can eventually lead to dementia.

Parkinson's Disease
Caffeine, along with antioxidants, has quite a few health benefits. Coffee drinkers
have an 80% reduced likelihood of developing Parkinson's disease. These
types of studies are leading researchers to produce Parkinson's medication
that contains more caffeine.

Asthma
A normal dosage of Anacin or Excedrin, two common pain relievers, contains as
much as 120 milligrams of caffeine. This is approximately the same amount of
caffeine found in a normal serving of coffee. This amount of caffeine can keep
asthma under control and possibly help with attacks in the absence of medication.

Gall Stones
Men and women have been shown to experience a decrease in gall bladder disease
as well as gall stones by consuming coffee on a regular basis.

Improved Cognition
People that drink coffee regularly often score higher on IQ tests, cognitive
tests, and short term memory quizzes.

Although nobody is making the claim that espresso or coffee is a cure to any
major disease, long term studies are proving that there are significant advantages
to regular consumption. However, like everything else, it is important that
moderation is practiced at all times.
