How to Build a Sliding Saddle Rack

    • 1). Sand the section of post until it feels smooth and splinter-free. Round the corners and buff it as much as possible.

    • 2). Remove any dust and apply a coat of stain to the entire post, following the directions on the can of stain that you choose. Allow the stain to dry before continuing.

    • 3). Insert one screw eye into the wall about the level of your hip. To insert the screw eye, make a small shallow hole with a drill and then continue twisting in the screw eye. Once the screw eye is in, hook the double-ended snap to it.

    • 4). Place the post under the screw eye, one end against the wall, one end toward you. Position the post so that a corner side (rather than a flat side) is facing up, as this will support the tree of the saddle. Extend the free end of the snap along the corner of the post as far as it will go and mark that spot on the corner with a pencil.

    • 5). Insert the second screw eye into the spot you marked with the pencil. Position the screw on a slant, with the eye leaning toward the wall.

    • 6). Hook the snap on the post's screw eye and position it against the wall. The wall should stabilize the post, supporting it parallel to the floor. To collapse it, just pull it away from the wall.
