How to Prepare for a Perfect Race

Preparing for an upcoming race? Try these four simple tips to preparing for a perfect race!

1. Work On Your Health
If you aren't in good health, you obviously aren't going to be able to finish a race, and probably not even come close to taking the winning spot. It is definitely important to keep your health in mind no matter what the circumstances, but if you are preparing for an upcoming race you must worry about your health even more so.

Some easy ways to take care of yourself and your health include the following:

EUR Eat a well-balanced diet. Stay away from processed foods, taking an extra caution against all processed sugars. Eat plenty of fruits, vegetables, and lean meats to give your body plenty of nutrients.

EUR Take a multivitamin to add an extra dose of essential vitamins and minerals to your body.

EUR Get plenty of rest, acquiring at least 8 hours of sleep each night.

EUR Avoid stress, as it can be extremely detrimental to the body, both mentally and physically. Try to stay away from all triggers of stress and handle stressful events calmly.

2. Work on Essential Skills

When preparing for a race, you obviously need to do a bit of physical preparation. There are two major skills you need to work on: your running stamina and muscle tone.

EUR Running: Obviously the majority of the race will include running. Getting plenty of practice in before the race is essential to a good outcome. Come up with a variety of running routes so your routine doesn't get boring. For example, one day you could go for a run around your neighborhood and the next day could be a run through the park. Keep it interesting. Some other running tips to think about include:
1. Try to run at least 3 times a week, with 5 being goal.
2. Don't overdo it. Running every day can do more harm than good, and if you're seriously too tired and achy to run, it is in your best interest to skip the run that night.
3. Increase the intensity of your run each time to build stamina.

EUR Muscle Toning: Some races will include a certain amount of physical activities other than running. For this reason (and because building muscle tone will help your running skills overall), it is important to include a muscle building workout routine during your weekly schedule. Try to do muscle building exercises on days you don't run. Include crunches, push-ups, pull ups, squats, and other toning exercises.

3. Wear the Shoes
One of the most important running tips for a race is to wear the right running shoes. You can find high quality shoes at stores like Under Amour shoes, Foot Locker, and Famous Footwear. Buy shoes specifically made for high intensity running and always measure your foot before making a purchase. You will also benefit by finding out the arch of your foot and buying shoes that match your specific foot's arch.

4. Ease Your Mind
If you are leveled with yourself and achieve an overall positive state of mind, your outlook will undoubtedly be better. This relates to the 'avoiding stress' tip above. Always center yourself and think positively through each practice run, and carry this same peaceful, positive
