The Most Difficult Holiday is Not Christmas
The Most Difficult Holiday -- Mother's Day Holidays are usually difficult for family members when they have lost a loved one.
After my mother died, the most difficult day for me is Mother's Day.
This holiday honors our mothers, however how do we celebrate it when our mother is gone? Mother's Day is celebrated around the world on different dates.
It is one of the most commercially successful occasions of the year.
But to me, Mother's Day was not about buying "things" for my mother, it was about paying tribute to my mother.
What an important day! So needless to say, the first Mother's Day after my mother's death was heart-wrenching for me.
Everywhere I turned there were advertisements for this day.
On television, on the internet, in newspapers, everywhere--you were encouraged to remember your mother on Mother's Day.
Of course I remembered my mother, how could I forget she was gone? If you passed the card section at a department store or grocery store, there were special sections for Mother's Day cards.
Every year, I would be so careful about purchasing my mother's card.
It had to have just the right verse, just the right look, and just the right acknowledgment my mother deserved.
I had no card to buy.
I felt sad, angry and didn't know what to do.
Mother's Day was not a day to celebrate as I had done in the past.
It was not a day to celebrate but a day to mourn? An idea came to me that I would honor my mother's memory by creating a blog site.
At that time, I hardly knew what a blog was but I knew it was a way that people could post comments.
By creating this blog, it would provide an outlet for those whose mothers had passed away and it would provide an outlet for me to write about one of the most wonderful mothers in the world, mine.
I had the thought but did not act upon it right away.
Then, a couple of months later I attended a writer's retreat.
At the retreat, one of the things I learned was how to create a blog.
This was my chance to honor my mother.
I knew what I had to do, I created a blog and on my mother's birthday, I posted my first message.
My mother was the center of the family who demonstrated her love to family members every day of her life.
She was selfless and giving.
Her "abundance" needed to be shared.
My mother's memory will stay alive through this blog site every day, not only on Mother's Day.
