Things to Know Before Installing a Vinyl Fence
- Are you planning on installing the vinyl fencing yourself or are you going to hire a installer/contractor? A vinyl fencing project is not a quick weekend task. The project requires several days, at least two people working, the right tools and concrete pouring. If you have little experience in using tools or working on large projects, consider hiring a fence installer or contractor.
- After determining who is going to install your vinyl fencing, obtain the proper building permits from your county/city government. Follow all local ordinances and requirements for installing a structure on your property. If you are using a installer/contractor, he can usually obtain the permits for you. Also, check for easements on your property, zoning laws and any placement regulations.
- Before installing your vinyl fence, sketch out on graph paper how you want the fence installed around the yard. Sketching out your vinyl fencing project will help eliminate problems later. Include where to place gates, width of fence sections and how to install around any trees or other unmovable structures. Try to be as accurate as possible in your measurements and descriptions.
- Purchase plenty of concrete (bags or directly from a concrete company if you are installing a large vinyl fence with a lot of posts) and other supplies when you purchase your vinyl fencing. List all the things you or your installer/contractor will need to install the fence properly. Don't just "make do" with supplies you may have at home.
- Make sure your vinyl fence comes with both a limited warranty from the manufacturer and an installation warranty from your installer/contractor if you use one. The installation warranty is for any problems related to the installer/contractor, like not properly installing the fences posts and gates and other installation tasks.
