Aquire All Medical Records Possible

• When completing all of the paperwork for the adoption process once you've been matched up with a baby, attempt to get all of your child's medical records possible. These include the mother's medical records during her pregnancy, which can be acquired through her OB/GYN, as well as the baby's birth records and any pediatric visits. The mother's records will be sealed so you will need her permission to access them. The reason for wanting the birth mother's pregnancy records is to see if there were any complications with the pregnancy or if any illegal substances or toxins were found in her bloodwork; this information could be very illuminating should any medical problems with the baby arise.
  
  

Prepare Your Home

• Often with adoption, you don't know when you'll actually be bringing your baby home so it's best to be prepared ahead of time. Purchase and set up the crib and changing table, and stock basic bedding, blankets and gender-neutral clothes so that you're ready whenever you receive your blessed miracle. Breastfeed

• Even if you've never been pregnant or breastfed before, you can still breastfeed your newly adopted baby. It will take work to get going but it's possible. You'll need to use a strong breastpump every few hours to start the production of milk. While you may still need to supplement your child's diet with formula, every bit of breast milk is helpful to your baby and you'll find it to be a bonding experience.
  
  

Spend Physical Time with Baby

• Bond with your new baby by spending as much time as possible with him. Get him used to your touch and scent by constantly holding him and touching his skin. Make eye contact so he quickly begins to recognize you and who you are to him as his caregiver.
