How to Dye Carpet in a Truck
- 1). Remove the screws that hold the trim around the door, remove the trim and set it aside.
- 2). Vacuum the carpet thoroughly with the shop vac.
- 3). Steam clean the carpet, wait for it to dry completely, then vacuum again. It is very important that the carpet be clean before applying the spray dye.
- 4). Place newspaper over the front edge of the truck seat and attach it with blue painter's tape. This will protect your seat from overspray. Cover the paint beside the edge of the carpet with paper and blue tape.
- 5). Shake the spray dye can, and hold it so the spray nozzle is about 8 inches away from the surface of carpet. Spray the dye onto the carpet using a smooth and continuous motion. Hold the can at a 45-degree angle while spraying.
- 6). Remove the newspaper and tape before the dye dries.
- 7). Let the dye dry completely, and put the trim around the door frame back in place. Insert the screws in the holes and tighten them with the screwdriver.
