Brand New Drafting Tables For Our School
We got a tour of our recently remodeled public school yesterday.
Several sections were remodeled while other areas were built brand new during the expansion.
For those of us who went through that school system decades ago it was interesting to see all the changes and to get a feeling of what our own children will experience and notice how it will be different than our own.
One area that was completely added on was the agriculture instruction area, including wood working, industrial drafting, machinery, welding and the like.
While we did have those classes during our high school years they weren't anything like what they'll have today.
The facility has all new equipment, including brand new drafting tables for the drafting and design classes.
Drafting tables are pretty basic and even though the mechanics and materials have changed through the years, the basic principles have not.
They are essential for people working in many engineering and mechanical fields.
They aren't just for commercial use, obviously they're necessary in education settings and even in homes.
Structurally they are not complicated, having few joints, but which are nevertheless quite stable.
Solid wood tables are often not adjustable, but the more modern styles are fully adjustable for height, table top angle and many have additional accessories such as lamps, storage areas and guides.
If you're thinking of getting one for you home don't forget that drafting tables are usually quite heavy.
If you buy one online you're likely to have some considerable shipping charges unless you're able to catch a sale or the store is offering a large discount.
For residential use they are often used as decoration once the young drafting student has either upgraded to a more advanced table or has given up the need for the table at home.
Any that aren't sold at garage sales are converted to a nice decorative piece of furniture.
