How to Speed Up Black Viper in Vista
- 1). Log in as any user with Administrator privileges.
- 2). Disable the automatic indexing feature that is on by default. This service keeps an up-to-date search index for the Start menu and all user home directories. Because it has to create the index at regular intervals, it will cause random slowdowns. To disable it, click on "Start," "Control panel," "System and maintenance," then "Indexing options." Click on "Modify," then on "Show all locations." Vista will display a "Summary of selected locations." Check next to "Users" and "Start menu." Click "OK."
- 3). Disable the Aero visual interface. Aero can be slow, especially on older computers that should be running the plain-vanilla Windows Classic Vista GUI instead. To disable it, click on "Start," "Control panel," then on "Personalization." Click on "Theme," select "Windows Classic" and click "OK."
- 4). Remove unneeded icons from the System Tray (the area typically at the right end of the task bar.) Unneeded icons slow down the boot process because Vista has to start every single one of them before the computer becomes responsive to user commands. Right-click on each icon, select the option to open the corresponding program. Uncheck both "Display icon on system tray" and "Start when Windows starts." Click "OK."
