Windows XP Memory Requirements
- The minimum about of RAM (random access memory) needed to run Windows XP is 64 megabytes (MB). Performance with 64 MB may be limited; 128 MB is suggested for optimum performance.
- Hard disk space is also required to run Windows XP. 1.5 gigabytes (GB) of available hard disk space is needed to run Windows XP.
- A 300-megahertz (MHz) Pentium processor is recommended to run Windows XP. A 233-MHz Pentium processor is the minimum processor required to run Windows XP.
- A CD-ROM or DVD drive is needed to use Windows XP. For DVD use with Windows XP, 8 MB of video RAM is required along with a DVD decoder card or similar software.
- For Internet use with Windows XP, a 14.4 kilobits per second (Kbps) modem is needed. For voice and video conferencing with Windows XP, a 33.6 Kbps modem is needed.
