How to Use HP Recovery Discs to Install Windows on Another Computer
- 1). Make sure the computer you are about to install Windows on meets the minimum system requirements of the version of Windows you are installing. In order for Windows to run properly, a certain number of requirements (like CPU speed and the amount of available RAM) have to be present. To check the system requirements for the version of Windows you are about to install, go to www.microsoft.com and check the product page for that operating system.
- 2). Place the HP operating system recovery disc in your computer's DVD or CD drive.
- 3). Restart your computer with the disc in the drive.
- 4). Follow the directions on screen that appear once your computer starts to boot from the disc. Normally, your computer will boot from your hard drive and load your operating system. However, with the recovery disc present in the CD or DVD drive, the disc will take over and bring up a screen stating you are about to install Windows. Read the prompt on screen and follow the specific instructions that are laid out for you.
- 5). Restart your computer. Once the installation is complete (depending on your version of Windows and your computer's system resources, this could take anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour or more), restarting your computer will finalize the installation. Take the disc out of the drive and allow your computer to boot using your hard drive. Windows will then start.
