How To Grow Grass Quickly

23
Are you tired of "watching the grass grow"? In other words, would you like to have a fresh, green, vital lawn in a relatively short period of time? Do you have bald spots in your lawn? Maybe you have a special event coming up for which you would like your lawn to look beautiful. There are many options to consider, with some taking a week and others taking a full month to sprout. You will need to know how much time you need for your grass to grow and how much money you are willing to spend.

First you will need to choose what kind of grass you would like to grow. Make sure to choose the right seed for the right climate and area. There is seed for cool-season grasses, warm-season grasses, and transitional grasses. If you choose to plant grass seed this will take the longest to see results. You will normally see growth within a week, but for a full lawn, it may take up to a month. It is also the most inexpensive method.

You need to rake the area to be planted with a metal rake which will create small furrows where the seed can be deposited and grow. Spread a layer of potting soil over the area (or for large lawns use loam). Spread your seed. Then add another thin layer over the top or use a thin layer of manure.

A quicker method is hydroseed, which is a mixture of grass seed, fertilizer, water, a glue substance, and green-colored wood fibers that are sprayed on with a high pressure hose. This method works because of the mixture of the seed, with water and fertilizer, which gets a quicker growth usually taking 2 to 3 weeks. You will probably pay anywhere from 6 to 12 cents per square foot to hydroseed your lawn.

The quickest yet most expensive method is to purchase grass sod and install it on your lawn. Since sod is grass that is already grown with roots and soil attached, it is by far the quickest method to have an immediately beautiful green lawn. You can lay the sod yourself or have a company do it for you. You will pay anywhere from 30 to 60 cents per square foot of sod, depending on the type of grass chosen.

Lastly, keep your grass well watered (for seed and sod) when you notice the topsoil looking dry.
