How to Replace the Drive Belt on GE Top Loader Washing Machines
- 1). Unplug the power cord from the electrical wall socket.
- 2). Insert the tip of the putty knife into the gap under the top panel. Slide the putty knife across the gap to find the internal clips on the right and left sides. Press the knife into the clips to unlock them.
- 3). Lift the top panel up and back to rest on the rear wall.
- 4). Pull the front panel up to disconnect it from the washer base. Set the panel aside.
- 5). Slide the old drive belt off of the pulleys.
- 6). Position the new belt around the pulleys. Adjust the belt to fit in the center of each pulley.
- 7). Replace the front panel. Press down on the panel to engage the clips on the base.
- 8). Lower the top panel into its original position. Press down on the panel to lock the tabs.
