  The historic Belgian city of Ghent dates back to at least A.D. 650 with human settlements going even further back. Though it is not the most well known city in Belgium, it does have its draws. It has a medieval character with many of its historic buildings remaining intact and preserved - the Gravensteen castle and Saint Bavo Cathedral among the highlights, and the Ghent Festival draws about 2 million people each year.
