How to Hook Up a Coleman Propane Stove
- 1). Set the Coleman propane stove on a flat, sturdy surface, such as a table. Make sure the table is level and secure so that it does not tip over with the weight of pots and pans containing food.
- 2). Unlatch the stove. The latch is in the center front of the stove. Lift the latch upward and press in on the top of the latch to release it and pull the bottom outward. Open the lid fully and hold in place with one hand while lifting one side up to meet the lid. Insert the wind baffle on the top of the side into its opening on the top of the back and turn to secure. Repeat this process for the other side of the stove.
- 3). Place the pot support on top of the burners centering it in the metal indentations around the cooking area. Turn both of the burner valves to the "Off" position by turning clockwise.
- 4). Attach the propane regulator to the right side of the stove. Insert the regulator in the small opening to the rear of the stove on the right side and turn it clockwise. Tighten so it is hand-tight.
- 5). Remove the plastic protective cap on top of a 16.4-oz. disposable propane cylinder. Screw the propane cylinder onto the regulator and turn in a clockwise direction until it is hand-tight. The propane cylinder will be at a 45-degree angle so that the bottom of the cylinder is lower than the top.
- 6). Strike a kitchen match and hold near one burner with one hand while turning the burner valve below it in a counterclockwise direction with the other hand. The burner will light when the propane reaches the match.
- 7). Some Coleman propane stoves have an electronic ignition. These models do not require a match to light the burners. Turn the burner valve counterclockwise while pushing in the end of the valve until an audible click sounds and then turn the valve back off. Repeat this procedure until the stove burner lights.
