How to Improve the Look of Old Laminate Shelving
- 1). Take apart the shelving, using a screwdriver if necessary. Lay out the shelving pieces on a work space.
- 2). Dull each surface with your sander, running it over the old laminate just enough to take off the shine. Wipe off the dust.
- 3). Measure the length and width of one surface of the shelving. Add an inch to each side of the measurements, then transfer them to a piece of self-stick laminate using a pencil and square.
- 4). Use your razor knife to cut along each of the marked lines.
- 5). Peel off the wax paper from the back of the cut piece. Set it onto the shelf, so it covers the shelf completely and overhangs the edges by an inch all around.
- 6). Press your laminate roller over the surface, working from the middle outward and pressing every part of the surface to firmly set it and eliminate any air pockets.
- 7). Repeat the whole process for each span of the shelving that you want to re-laminate. Reassemble the shelves.
