How to Prepare for a Gynecologist Visit
- 1). Schedule your gynecological visit for a time when you will not be having your period. If you don't already have a regular gynecologist, it might be helpful to ask for recommendations from family members and close friends.
- 2). Collect information on your family medical history and your personal medical history. Prepare to discuss your reproductive, menstrual and contraceptive history, including the dates of your last period and gynecological visit, as well as any medications you are taking.
- 3). Compile a list of any symptoms you might be experiencing, including itching, irregular periods, unusual discharge or uncomfortable urination. If you need another prescription for birth control, or are thinking about switching contraceptive methods, make a note to discuss that during your visit as well.
- 4). Bring your lists with you to your examination, along with a pen or pencil to write down the doctor's answers to your questions. You will probably go over a lot of information with your doctor, so it's best not to try to rely on memory alone.
