How to Powder Paint Jig Heads

33
    • 1). Shake the jar of powder paint to make the paint light and fluffy. Remove the lid and set it aside. Pour the powder paint into a plastic container with a wide opening.

    • 2). Grasp the hook on the jig with a pair of needle nose pliers or a hemostat.

    • 3). Heat the jig head over a flame for three to six seconds, depending on the size of the jig. Larger jigs will need to be heated longer. You can use a lighter, a small propane torch or the flame from a gas range.

    • 4). Push the heated jig head through the paint in a quick side-to-side motion. Do not leave the head in the paint; just dip it through the powder and pull it out. Shake off excess paint.

    • 5). Wait a few seconds for the paint to liquify and harden. You can speed the process by heating the jig head for a second or two.

    • 6). Use a knife or spare hook to clean the paint out of the jig eye.

    • 7). Screw the lid back onto the jar of powder paint and shake it after every few jigs. Otherwise the powder will start to cake and won't adhere to the jig head.

    • 8). Hang the jigs from a rack in an oven or toaster oven, and bake them at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 15 minutes. The heat will harden the paint and make it more durable.
