    • 1). Empty gasoline from the fuel tank into a container. Locate the in-line fuel filter in the fuel line between the fuel tank and the engine. Pull the fuel line from both ends of the filter. Purchase a suitable replacement filter and install in the fuel line.

    • 2). Add gasoline to the fuel tank and oil to the oil filler tube of the engine. Do not mix fuel and oil together when working with a four-cycle engine.

    • 3). Grasp the boot on the end of the spark plug wire and pull the wire from the spark plug tip. Loosen and remove the spark plug with a spark plug wrench. Wipe excess carbon or fuel from the spark plug with a rag. Replace an old or scorched spark plug with a suitable replacement. Thread the spark plug back in the engine and tighten securely but do not over-tighten with the spark plug wrench. Attach the spark plug wire back to the spark plug tip making sure it is securely attached.

    • 4). Locate the air cleaner housing on the side of the engine. Remove the air cleaner housing cover and remove the air cleaner. Wash the foam air cleaner with dish detergent and running water. Rinse the cleaner thoroughly and allow to dry before installing back into the air cleaner housing.

    • 5). Examine the cooling fins on the rear of the engine. Remove dirt and debris from between the fins with a stiff bristle brush. Loosen and remove any debris that could interfere with the engine properly cooling.
