How to Refinish Wall Panels With Grooves
- 1). Sand the wall panels using a power sander stocked with 120-grit sandpaper. Sand along with the grain of the wood until the finish appears dull.
- 2). Sand within the wall panel grooves using a power drill equipped with a sisal wheel. Stop when the finish appears dull.
- 3). Wipe down the wall panels with tack cloths, effectively removing dust that would inhibit stain absorption.
- 4). Protect areas running adjacent to the wall panels by covering them with painter's tape. Cover the floor with drop cloths.
- 5). Coat the wall panels with stain using a roller stocked with a shed-free cover. Use a 2-inch paintbrush to apply stain to the areas within the grooves. Hold the paintbrush sideways and brush vertically. Use clean cloth rags to wipe excess stain from the panels.
- 6). Wait 2 hours for the wall panels to dry. Add a second coat of stain for darker results.
