Casinos in Arizona

Arizona has had casino gambling for 20 years. A compact signed in 1993 allowed the state’s tribes to offer slot machines on their reservations and blackjack was added in 2003. Poker is legal in many forms across the state, but standard games with a dealer and house rake are only legal at the tribal casinos. Currently16 tribes operate 25 casinos.

Arizona Casino Facts

The minimum age to gamble at casinos is 21.

Al the state’s casinos are operated 24 hours per day. Although there are ATM’s and cashier cages at the casinos, credit is not allowed. Arizona is not like Nevada, where free alcohol is offered to all players, as this is prohibited by the state’s alcohol board, although the casinos do offer free alcoholic beverages to some players, and this is based on bet-size average and length of play. Non-alcoholic beverages are complementary.

The Casinos

Similar to most US properties, Arizona casinos offer video poker and video blackjack, at 83 to 100 percent payback, slot machines with 80 to 100 payback; and keno with 75%to 100 payback. Table games have a maximum at most casinos of $1000. Only limit and a restricted style of pot-limit poker games are allowed, with a maximum spread limit of $5 to $500. Bingo is offered at some of the larger casinos.

Currently, table games are restricted to blackjack, poker, Spanish 21, Let-it-Ride, Three-Card-Poker, Pai Gow, and several forms of Texas Hold’em pit games.

Live craps and roulette are not offered, but most casinos have some form of video roulette, many have video or simulated (with large dice) craps.

Phoenix and Scottsdale

The largest casino facility is Talking Stick Resort (480) 850-777 a mile east of Loop 101 on Indian Bend Road in Scottsdale. The property has golf, a 494-room hotel tower, fine dining, 700 slots, keno, 59 table games, and the state’s largest poker room with 47 tables. The Salt River/Maricopa Pima Indian Tribe also owns Casino Arizona (480) 850-7777 east of Loop 101 at McKellips Road and 92nd Street in Scottsdale. The property McKellips property does not have a hotel, but does have a large Bingo room.

Fort McDowell Casino (800) 843-3678 is located at Highway 87 and Fort McDowell Road in Fountain Hills, approximately 20-minutes from Loop 101 at Shea Boulevard or Loop 202 at Highway 87. The property has an adjacent Radisson Hotel, golf, bingo, keno, slots, and table games. All Arizona casinos have restaurants. The Fort has a sushi bar and three other places to eat.

Gila River Casinos include Wild Horse Pass (800) 946-4458 one mile west of 1-10 in Chandler, off Maricopa Road; Lone Butte, east of 1-10 off of Loop 202; and Vee Quiva, at 51st Avenue and Estrella in Laveen.

Lone Butte is nicely appointed and offers dining as well as slots, table games, and keno. Poker at Wild Horse Pass and Vee Quiva is very active, and both have new facilities with a hotel tower, poker, keno, slots, and table games. Wild Horse Pass also offers nearby golf.

Harrah’s Ak-Chin Casino Resort (480) 805-5000 is located 20 miles from 1-10 east at exit 162B and left on Maricopa Road. The resort has a 300-room hotel, RV Park, outdoor concert facility, restaurants, and a full casino with Bingo, Keno, poker, slots and a total of 43 table games.

Tucson and Southern Arizona

Casino of the Sun (800) 344-9435 is located 5 miles west of I-19 and 1 mile south of Valencia Road in Tucson.

Desert Diamond Casino on I-10 (520) 294-7777 is located south of Tucson at I-19 & Exit 80 in Sahuartia.

Desert Diamond Casino on Nogales Highway (520) 294-7777 is located 1 mile south of Valencia Road on Nogales Highway in Tucson.

Sedona/Camp Verde

Cliff Castle Casino (800) 381-7568 is located 1 mile east of I-17 on Middle Verde Road in Camp Verde.

Prescott

Bucky's Casino (800) 756-8744 is located at Highway 69 and Heather Heights in Prescott.

Payson

Mazatzal Casino (800) 777-7589 is just south of Payson on Highway 87

White Mountains

Hon-Dah Resort Casino (800) 929-8744 is located 3 miles past Pinetop at the junction of Highways 260 and 73 in Pinetop.

Globe

Apache Gold Casino Resort (800) 878-2538 is located 5 miles east of Globe on Highway 70.

Colorado River

BlueWater Resort & Casino (888) 243-3360 is located at Highway 95 and Resort Drive in Parker Arizona.

Cocopah Casino & Bingo (800) 237-5687 is located at Highway 95 about 5 miles south of Yuma in Somerton.

Each casino in Arizona has a players club for obtaining complementary meals and lodging if the property has a hotel. Some of the casinos, like Casino Arizona, Gila River, and Desert Diamond have multiple properties and one card is good at each of their sister properties.

The state also offers pari-mutuel wagering, race tracks, a lottery, and charitable gaming. Many bars and restaurants have poker in the form of poker leagues, offered at no cost, as an incentive to attract business.  Racetracks in Arizona:
