How to Convert to an MP3 Player

    • 1). Download and install the Mac or Windows version of the free iTunes software (see the link in Resources). Restart the Windows-based computer.

    • 2). Put a music CD into the DVD/CD drive of the computer. Wait for the icon of the music CD to appear on the computer's desktop.

    • 3). Run iTunes. Go to "iTunes" and then "Preferences." Select "General" in the window that appears. Click on the "Import Settings" button to open a new window.

    • 4). Select "MP3 Encoder" from the drop down menu in the new window that is next to the "Import Using" tab. Select "Higher Quality" from the drop down menu below "MP3 Encoder" that is next to the "Setting" tab. Close the window by clicking on the "OK" button. Close the "Preferences" window by clicking on the "OK" button.

    • 5). Click on the "+" button at the lower left hand corner of the iTunes program. Click on the "Name box" that appears and enter the same name as the music CD.

    • 6). Double click on the icon of the music CD on the desktop to open its window. Click on all of the music files inside of the window while holding down the "Shift" key. Drag the audio files into the open column at the center of the iTunes program with the mouse.

    • 7). Drag the music file using the mouse into the "Library" tab at the upper left hand corner of the iTunes program. Wait as the music files are converted into MP3 audio files. Eject the music CD when the conversion is done.

    • 8). Click on the "Music" tab at the upper left hand corner of the iTunes program. Select a music file from the center column and right click on it with the mouse. Select "Show in Finder" or "Show in Explorer" from the pop-up menu. Drag the MP3 file from within the window that has appeared on the Finder into an MP3 player attached to the computer, or use iTunes to transfer the MP3 file to an Apple-specific MP3 player.
