    Reinstall

    • Uninstall and reinstall the mouse drivers using the disc that came in the packaging. The mouse drivers' information is kept on a mini-disc. Click the "Windows" icon in the bottom left of the screen, then click the "Devices and Printers" tab. Double-click on the mouse icon on the new screen. Click on the "Hardware" tab. Click on the mouse icon in the small screen. Select the "Drivers" tab and click "Uninstall." Reinstall the drivers by inserting the manufacturer's disc and clicking "Install."

    Troubleshoot

    • If the problem is not resolved, test whether the mouse is working properly by first left-clicking on the "Windows" icon in the bottom left of the screen. Click on "Devices and Printers," which brings up a menu of devices attached to the computer. Click on the mouse icon, then on the "Hardware" tab in the mouse screen. The bottom line will read "Device Status" and should tell you if the device is working properly.

    USB Ports

    • Try the mouse on another USB port if you are using a wired peripheral. The USB ports are located at the back of the computer. Some new computers have USB ports at the front of the computer tower.

    Alternatives

    • Try the mouse on another computer if the problem persists. Replace the batteries if you are using a wireless mouse. Low power could be causing the problem.
