How do I Add a Case Fan to an XPS 420?
- 1). Unplug all of the cords (the AC cable especially) from the back of the computer. Use the screwdriver to remove the screws on the side of the case covers. Gently slide back on the case covers to move them out of position, and pull up to detach them from the case.
- 2). Lay the computer case on its back with the motherboard facing you. Place both hands on the metal chassis to relieve your hands of any static electricity. You should do this whenever working inside your computer case.
- 3). Locate the grill on the back of the computer case. The grill is the series of small holes/openings below the power supply. On the XPS 420, the case fan screws into the grill itself. Position the fan inward against the grill if you want air to go out. Position the fan outward against the grill if you want air to go in. Tighten the screws on the case fan when it is in the desired position.
- 4). Connect the wires on the case fan to either the power supply or motherboard (as instructed by the case fan's instructions). Before replacing the case, connect the AC cable and power on the computer to confirm that the fan is connected and directing wind in the desired position. When everything checks out, reattach the case covers.
