How to Find a Hole in My Pool
- 1). Inspect the outside lining of the pool for any brown or white discoloration. As water leaks, it evaporates. Evaporated water leaves behind a white powdery scale. If left alone, the water starts to rust the liner. If you locate a discolored area, the hole is likely at the top of the discoloration.
- 2). Inspect the substrate on which the pool rests. In most cases, the substrate is sand and extends past the outside perimeter of the pool by several inches. Look for erosion caused by the leaking water. In addition, look for wet spots in the sand and in the grass around the pool. A wet spot indicates a hole in the bottom of the pool's liner.
- 3). Turn off the pumps and drains in the pool. Place food coloring into the water in the area where you suspect the hole and wait for a while. The dye draws towards any holes in the liners
- 4). Inspect the plumbing. Most plumbing setups have several joints that work loose and start to leak. Although not part of the pool liner, this is a common leaking area.
