Can you prevent stretch marks during pregnancy?

Stretch marks can happen to anyone, regardless of gender. But, of all periods of a woman's life, in particular, stretch marks during pregnancy is very common. Women dread having stretch marks during this nine-month period because it is when the fibers of the skin are stretched to the limit to accommodate the bulging uterus. Of course, pregnancy is one of the few factors which make a person prone to stretch marks; sudden growth, sudden weight gain, weight loss and exercising to the limit can all cause stretch marks.

But can stretch marks during pregnancy prevented? Unfortunately, the answer is not clear. Genetics do play a vital factor in determining whether you will have them or not. If someone in your family had them, it means you have a huge chances of getting them later in life. However, you can still raise your chances of not having them if you follow the tips below.

Here are some tips to follow to prevent stretch marks during pregnancy.

1. Exercise. Do some light stretching on the legs, arms and spine to promote skin elasticity. Stretch marks happen because the skin is not elastic enough, and so are stretched to maximum limit, producing tears which, of course, are stretch marks as we know them.

2. Vitamins. Have a good diet rich in vitamins that help prevent stretch marks. Vitamins that help prevent stretch marks are

Vitamin A - It is not only good for the eyes, but it also promotes healthy hair, bones and nails. It
repairs injured skin and get rid of your scaly skin if you have one. Vitamin A helps prevent
stretch marks in that it makes the skin soft and full, stimulates the renewal process of the
skin cells, which leads to the thickening of the skin. Lastly, it increases collagen content,
which leads to the improved elasticity of the skin.

Vitamin C - Helps heal wounds and scar tissues, and increases the synthesis of the collagen

Vitamin E - Promotes healing of the skin and the tissues, keeps the skin healthy and promotes healing of
post-surgical scars

Zinc - Increases collagen of the skin to firm it up. Collagen is important in that, it holds the skin together, and is the most abundant structural protein which makes up eighty percent
of all connective tissues. When you have a lot of collagen, you can prevent stretch marks.

3. Shea butter. Apply this everyday on the skin to make sure you get to avoid stretch marks.

4. Massage the skin with baby oil everyday to make the skin elastic enough when stretched to its limit.

5. There are products in the market like Revitol and Biotherm to help prevent stretch marks. I don't know if they work, however, but with the testimonials and reviews they get, maybe they can be worth some time.

I don't guarantee that you will prevent stretch marks during pregnancy. However, you might, if you follow the tips above and by applying a good cream that will help promote skin elasticity.
