How to Remove a Wire From a Switch
- 1). Turn off all the power to the switch. Flip any breaker that controls the switch to "off" on a breaker panel. If you are not sure which switch it is, flip the main circuit breaker to "off."
- 2). Remove any cover on the switch with the appropriate screwdriver.
- 3). Test the wire terminals with a voltage tester. You must find zero voltage at the terminals before you remove a wire. If any voltage is found, turn the main circuit breaker in the panel to "off."
- 4). Unscrew the wire with the appropriate screwdriver. Pull off the wire from the terminal and repeat this procedure for as many wires as you need removed.
