• The Mitsubishi Galant GTZ is a trim level offered in the United States from 1999 through 2003. Offered in five grades, the GTZ is the sporty member of the Galant family, with a body-colored grille, fog lamps, special 16-inch wheels, white-faced interior gauges and a small spoiler. History

• The Galant produced between 1999 and 2003 was only slightly larger than its predecessor, but improvements in interior room resulted in an EPA upgrade to the midsize class. The nameplate dates to 1969, but this generation is notable for being the first V6-equipped Galant. The Galant was criticized by Car and Driver magazine and Motor Trend magazine for a lack of power, and the larger engine addressed this shortcoming with mixed results. The GTZ also features standard side airbags, an unusual feature for the time. In the U.S., the Galant GTZ competed primarily with the Nissan Altima, Mazda 626 and Honda Accord. In 2004, the Galant grew again with a complete redesign.
  
  

Powertrain

• The standard engine in the Galant GTZ is a 3.0-liter, double overhead-cam V6. This engine produces 195 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 205 pound-feet of torque at 4,000 rpm. It is constructed with four valves per cylinder. The only transmission offered is a four-speed automatic, and the Galant GTZ is a front-wheel-drive vehicle. Suspension
