How to Customize a VTX
- 1). Establish a budget and design a concept. The planning is probably the most important phase, so you do not get distracted and your bike does not look random. With accessories, it is easy to go over budget in some categories, leaving no money for others. Decide how much you will spend on each portion of your project and ensure your design stays within that budget.
- 2). Purchase and install the accessories you have chosen for your design. Shop around for the best prices. There are hundreds of online retailers, and even Honda offers custom accessories for your VTX. From air filters to chrome bolt covers to additional lighting and luggage, every manufacturer and catalog offers something different at varying prices. Shopping around can also help you stay within your budget. Once you have purchased the accessories, install them and see if they fit as planned and still follow the concept you designed. The beginning of the customization process is the easiest time to change your mind.
- 3). Choose a custom paint scheme. This can be done through Honda as well, or you can have your bike custom painted by a local painter. Consult local motorcycle shops to find a reliable and reputable painter. Painted parts can be purchased on line as well, and Honda and other retailers have some pre-painted tins in an exchange program -- your old tins plus a fee for new, custom-painted ones. Choose the paint options that best fit your budget and the design concept you have created.
